FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I have a conversion built by another company, can SK upgrade it ?
Yes, regardless who did the conversion the important part is to have the van handle safely and correctly.
In the 20+ years SK has been converting vehicles to 4x4 over 15 other
companies have come and gone, we have upgraded almost all of them.
Can SK furnish parts for my van converted by another company?
In most cases yes, we will assist you as much as possible by phone or help you identify the parts you need to replace if you email us the pictures. Sometimes we need the custom parts or parts which can't be readily identified to be
sent to us so we can either match them or have new parts built to match.
Is the vehicle harder to drive after the conversion?
No.
Does the conversion lower my Gross Vehicle Weight?
No.
Can you convert a 15 passenger van or do you have to remove the rear seat and why do some convertors remove the rear seat?
Salem Kroger does not remove any seating, the van leaves here with the same Gross Vehicle Weight as it had when it arrived. Some other converters install under-stock load-rated tires. This lowers the vans GVW by reducing the number of passengers and load the van can carry.
How is the turning radius?
The turning radius is improved on the Ford Conversions.
How is the ride quality?
A little firmer than stock but much more precise handling.
What is the availability on service parts?
Most of the moving or "wear" parts are genuine Ford parts so they are easily available.
How does Salem Kroger's warranty work?
We repair anything that constitutes a failure of our engineering or our workmanship. All individual part failures that occur not as a result of our engineering or workmanship are the sole responsibility of the part manufacturer.
How long does a conversion take?
The conversion process varies based upon availability of parts, if custom engineering work is done and several other factors. It can take anywhere from 4 weeks to a year depending on how complex you want your vehicle to be.
Can I bring my own tires and wheels?
Sure, we will even give you all the technical information on size, bolt-pattern and load requirements and the size and type of tire that works best on your vehicle.
What happens to my old parts?
They are your parts, you can take them with you on completion of the conversion or leave them here, there is no credit for the takeoff parts.
What is the effect on mileage?
Usually a vehicle loses about 1/2 MPG in 4x2 during normal driving.
How much lift can you do to a van?
SK starts at 3.5 inches to fit a 30.5 inch tall tire and can go up to 8 inches with a 38 inch tire.
Is there a difference in converting a van with barn doors or a slider?
SK can convert either, but a van with a sliding side door can only fit a 9.6 inch wide tire and a van with hinged side doors can fit up to a 13.5 inch wide tire.
Are the stock transmission and rear axle modified?
Your stock rear axle and transmission usually remain, if the van has substancial miles on it we can remove the transmission and have it rebuilt or "freshened up".
What are the payment terms?
